Une Olive en Provence
Une Olive en Provence is a skincare house from Maussane-les-Alpilles, a village in the Vallée des Baux at the foot of the Alpilles hills, in the heart of one of France's oldest olive-growing regions. Its soaps, creams, oils and hair care are all built around the olive tree and made in Provence.
The house
The Vallée des Baux is olive country, and Une Olive en Provence grew out of that landscape. The house has its shop on the avenue de la Vallée des Baux in Maussane, among the groves and mills of the valley, and it took the tree itself, rather than any single product, as its starting point.
The idea is to use every part of the olive tree, not only the oil. Extra virgin olive oil brings its fatty acids and vitamin E. Olive squalane, a light emollient derived from the oil, gives hydration without greasiness and appears in most of the face and body range. Extracts of olive leaf and olive flower contribute antioxidant and soothing properties, while crushed olive stones serve as the natural exfoliant in the face and body scrubs. Around these actives the house adds plant oils and butters, such as shea, sweet almond, argan and rose, and keeps the natural-origin share of its formulas high, typically between 95 and 99 percent.
Some rules apply across the range: no parabens, no phenoxyethanol, no ingredients of animal origin, no animal testing, and everything is manufactured in Provence.
