Beef seared in a smoking-hot wok, crisp broccoli and a glossy honey finish take on the warm, sweetly anise-scented perfume of Place des Épices’ organic five spices, where genuine Ceylon cinnamon replaces the usual cassia.

Serves 4 · 25 min

  1. Toss 1 lb (450 g) thinly sliced flank steak with 1 tsp of the five spices, 2 tbsp soy sauce and 1 tsp cornstarch.
  2. Sear the beef in 1 tbsp very hot oil for 2 to 3 minutes, then set aside.
  3. Stir-fry 1 sliced red bell pepper, 1 head of broccoli in small florets and 2 minced garlic cloves for 4 minutes.
  4. Return the beef with 1 tbsp honey and a splash of water, toss for 1 minute and serve with rice.
