Two golden sponges, a thick layer of jam and a snowfall of powdered sugar: from Maison Perrotte’s Anaïs Strawberry Jam Gift Box, strawberries grown in open fields in Indre-et-Loire give this cake the taste of a family garden.

Serves 8 · 50 min

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and butter two 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pans.
  2. Beat 3/4 cup (175 g) soft butter with 3/4 cup plus 2 tbsp (175 g) sugar until fluffy, then beat in 3 eggs one at a time.
  3. Fold in 1 1/3 cups (175 g) flour, 2 tsp baking powder and 2 tbsp milk, divide between the pans and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Once the cakes are cool, spread one with 1/2 cup (150 g) of the Anaïs strawberry jam, top with the second and dust with powdered sugar.
