Oil-slicked flatbreads come out crisp at the edges, the sesame toasty and the kitchen fragrant: Place des Épices’ organic Épices Zaatar, a blend of oregano, tangy sumac and roasted Ugandan sesame, brings Levantine cooking to the table.

Serves 4 · 20 min

  1. Mix 3 tbsp za’atar with 1/4 cup (60 ml) olive oil and a pinch of salt.
  2. Spread the mixture over 4 flatbreads or pitas, right to the edges.
  3. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 6 to 8 minutes, until the edges are crisp and the sesame is toasty.
  4. Serve warm with labneh, sliced tomatoes, cucumber and fresh mint.
