Wood, amber, and musk: its notes read like a perfume, yet this is a pepper from Cameroon. Native to India, Piper nigrum reached Africa in 1930, and Penja black pepper became the first PGI on the African continent; the organic Black Peppercorn Penja from Place des Épices comes as creamy peppercorns of varied color, a sure choice for pepper lovers. Powerful, full-bodied, and long on the palate, it reveals those heavy, refined notes. Grind it over game or a rib of beef.
